Welcome to the Higher Ed Interest Section (HEIS)!
PennTESOL-East's Higher Education Interest Section (HEIS) represents instructors from numerous colleges and universities in the Philadelphia region and beyond. By working together we can better understand issues and concerns in our educational environment and their affect on our student population.
HEIS hosts several informal get-togethers each year. These usually occur on a Saturday at a member’s home and a topic of discussion is set. Sometimes guest speakers are invited to speak on the topic. Other times, the members bring information to share. These get-togethers, which are free for PTE members, allow for networking and professional development in a relaxed environment.
As of August 2010, I have relocated to Indiana, Pennsylvania, where I am pursuing doctoral studies in TESOL and English Composition. Although I am logistically outside the PennTESOL-East region, use me as a clearinghouse for information and scheduling events. Despite the distance, I am "right next door" electronically.
To facilitate communication between interest section members, I have created a Wiki. The URL is http://penntesoleasthighereducation.pbworks.com. This is a secure site; no one can see any information posted on the wiki without an ID and password. I have created IDs using the e-mail addresses members provided on the PennTESOL-East website. Unfortunately, if you did not provide an e-mail address or opted not to share your contact information, you will not automatically receive an invitation to participate in the wiki.
Everyone has the ability to post and change information on the wiki; feel free to schedule meetings and share information with your colleagues on the wiki pages. You can change the content of the pages or just add comments to the bottom of each page. Don't worry about "erasing" someone else's information by accident; wikis track changes and older versions of pages can be easily restored.
You will receive 2 e-mails from me regarding the wiki: the first will be from the PennTESOL-east website introducing the wiki; the second will be an invitation to join the wiki and create a user name and password. New PTE/HEIS members should contact me directly at the e-mail address below to be added to the wiki.
If you have any questions about the Higher Ed Interest Section or about the wiki, feel free to contact me at the e-mail address below.
